Entrance Procedure
Entry into Years 7 to 10
Admission to Pitsford School is subject to a satisfactory performance in the Entrance Examination. The Entrance Examination is taken by all applicants wishing to enter Pitsford School in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10. The examination is a cognitive ability test which is a series of numerical, verbal and non-verbal reasoning tests which identifies the applicant’s potential. Parents should register with Mrs Karen Cannon at the School if they would like their child to sit the Entrance Examination. Candidates will be offered a place based on the results of the Entrance Examination, supported by a satisfactory reference from the Headteacher of their present school. The examinations are designed to be equally appropriate for pupils in both maintained and independent schools.
The next Entrance Examination is due to be held on Wednesday 14 November 2012. Please contact the School Office on 01604 880306 to register a place.
Additional Information
For those pupils who are presently attending Preparatory Schools, it is recommended that transfer should take place at 13+. In exceptional cases, it might be advantageous that transfer takes place earlier. However, in all cases, the matter should be initially raised with the Headteacher of your son or daughter’s school.
 Entry into Year 11
Pupils are not normally admitted to Year 11 (or part way through Year 10) because they will already be some way into their GCSE courses and a change of school at this stage is not generally helpful to the pupil’s academic progress. However, in some circumstances, pupils will be accepted into the school at this stage. In these cases, it must be borne in mind that the GCSE options they may have been following at their previous school may be unavailable at Pitsford School.
Entrance at 16+
Candidates for entrance to the Sixth Form will be invited to an interview with the Headmaster. A place will be offered to successful candidates subject to GCSE results and a satisfactory report from the Headteacher of the current school that the candidate is attending. Generally, we would expect a minimum of six B grades with a B grade or better at GCSE in the subjects to be taken at ‘A’ level. Parents should register with Mrs Karen Cannon, at the School, if they wish their child to be considered for a place in the Sixth Form.
