The Sixth Form
The Sixth Form at Pitsford School  is structured so as to provide a stepping stone from the discipline of the Senior School to the more relaxed learning of University or further education.
To learn more about our Sixth Form, visit us on Tuesday 12 March between 2pm and 6pm. Our Sixth Form Information Evening is designed to give up to date information on the curriculum and allows you to meet current pupils and speak to teachers.
“The learning throughout sixth form wasn’t restricted to the class room – the active duty system instilled a sense of responsibility; and personal skills learnt through tutorial sessions were invaluable in preparing UCAS applications.”
Although they are required to dress smartly, Sixth Form students do not wear a uniform. Their timetable is planned to ensure that each student begins to take responsibility for their own time; hence a number of private study periods are built in. Equally, General Studies (dealing with general issues and careers) and a Physical Education programme are also included in their timetable.
Each Sixth Form student has their own tutor, who is normally one of their A level teachers. At Pitsford School, Sixth Formers take full part in the life of the School including the Activities Programme; many will have positions of responsibility.
Requirements
We would normally expect a student joining the Sixth Form to have a minimum of six GCSEs at grades A, B or C. They should have at least achieved a grade B in each of those subjects they wish to take at A level.
Curriculum
Normally a sixth form student would pick 4 subjects to study in the Lower Sixth taking AS examinations at the end of the year, and then continue with either three or four of these to A2 in the Upper Sixth. Subjects currently available: Art, Biology, Chemistry, Economics, English Literature, French, Geography, German, History, Mathematics and Further Mathematics, Music, Physics, Spanish and Sport and Physical Education.
