About us

Welcome to the website of Pitsford School (previously named Northamptonshire Grammar School), located in the village of Pitsford, just four miles from Northampton. We are the county’s leading small independent co-educational day school, taking pupils from the age of three through to eighteen.

Pitsford Hall

The Northamptonshire Independent Grammar School Charity Trust Limited exists solely to create and maintain an independent day school in Northamptonshire. The Trustees purchased Pitsford Hall, set in a 26 acre park in Pitsford for the School in 1989. The first pupils, who were boys, were admitted in September 1989.

Pitsford School first admitted girls in September 1999.  We now take pupils from the age of three through to eighteen. A full range of academic subjects through to GCSE, A level and University entrance are taught. Classes are deliberately kept small to ensure the best personal tuition. The curriculum draws on the best of the grammar school traditions of the past, makes them relevant to today’s needs, and ensures that they are applicable to the demands of the future.

The School aims to educate the whole person and sets, expects and maintains high standards in all its disciplines and extra-curricular activities. Competition both in work and sport is encouraged and emphasis is placed on developing the highest personal and moral qualities. The School has not formed a particular connection with any one religious denomination, but strives to portray a living Christianity that reflects the whole range of denominations and it is sympathetic to other faiths. Assemblies, church services and religious education on the timetable ensure that moral and spiritual values underpin all the work.

We have appointed well qualified and enthusiastic specialist teachers who can create a stimulating environment and who are accustomed to caring for each individual and to working with pupils who wish to excel. Successful education is a partnership where teachers and parents work together for the benefit of the pupils. We inform parents formally on six occasions throughout the year about their child’s progress; tutors are available at all times to both pupils and parents

We hope you enjoy your visit to this site. We want to give you a taste of what the School can offer your child.

Obviously, there is no substitute for a visit to the School and we would be delighted to meet you – just call the Registrar, Mrs Karen Cannon, on 01604 880306 or email: Kcannon@pitsfordschool.com.
