Bridge Building

Today I took Mrs Willmott’s class for a Design & Technology day. The task was to design a bridge and build it from paper, sellotape and paper clips. However, each team had a budget and had to think carefully how much of each resource they needed, and how best to use them. After designing their bridge they then had to produce a poster from the position of an architect making a presentation to the potential buyer of the bridge.

There were lots of great ideas, and all the bridges had potential as effective designs, although some construction methods did leave a little to be desired!!!

Finally, we tested each design; three bridges managed to span the 30cm gap and carry the required 500g. As a tie-breaker, I reviewed their posters and decided to award the “contract” to   Halle and Harriet, mainly because they managed to design and build a suspension bridge!
