The Footman Diaries
In May 2008 I was lent a diary of one Arthur Collins, a footman employed by Capt. Drummond at Pitsford Hall.
Monday 2 March 1931: “all hunting, HRH D & Dss here for tea” Â Duke and Duchess of York?
Monday 23 March 1931: “HRH for tea”
Tuesday 31 March 1931: “Princess E & M for tea”.

Saturday 4 April 1931: “Duke & Duchess of York, Princesses E & M for tea, Lowthers for tea”. The Lowthers I assume are Col John Lowther and family from Guilsborough Court, where the royal family tended to stay when in the area for hunting.
Saturday 11 April 1931: This one is interesting, I cannot make out some words though. “Kids party 24, Pincess E & M come (out or cut?) 1st time (teeth?)”  This is just 10 days before Princess Elizabeth’s 5th birthday. Princess Margaret would have been only 7 months old so maybe it refers to her cutting her first tooth?

This document confirms the generally accepted belief that the Queen was a regular visitor to Pitsford Hall as a child and a royal nanny seen pushing a pram around the village, although the baby in the pram was Margaret, not Elizabeth.
